Iryna Ramanava, Aliaksiej Machnač. Socio-economic practices of the Belarusian villagers during the NEP

In the 1920s the Belarusian village, despite all the storms of the previous period, remained quite traditional both in everyday life and in the organization of work. Soviet power was poorly represented in the countryside. The main authorities’ interventions were focused on distribution and redistribution of land, as well as the search for an algorithm to take the maximum amount of production from villages. During that period, the peasantry could not influence the policy of the Bolsheviks as a whole, but had opportunities to adapt their economy to new conditions. In the focus of this article are those strategies that were used by peasants in the 1920s.
